A probléma leírása

On January 27, a request for the status of trusted user was initiated on my behalf. On January 29, the request was denied by Bencemac. The reason given for the denial was “’’ we don't grant trusted user right for non-Hungarian editors, unless they do only global replacements.’’”

On January 21, a similar request was initiated for user Xebula. This request was granted on January 28 by Bencemac.

If we compare the records of Xebula and me we see the following:

Username # Edits HU Wiki # Edits other Wiki's # Edits total Votes in favor Votes against Application for Trusted user
Xebulo 230 47 277 0 0 Request granted, given benefit of the doubt
Sb008 273 3809 4082 2 0 Request refused for being non-Hungarian

A Hungarian user was granted trusted user rights. On the other hand, I with a clearly better record, more edits ‘(especially global) and 2 votes in favor was denied this right, only because I’m not Hungarian as was clearly stated. (Note: I have no problem with the trusted user status been given to Xebolu, I only used his records for comparing reasons.)

So, someone is not judged by the work done, but by nationality.

On the English Wikipedia, a Non-discrimination policy is defined, approved by the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. This policy applies to the Hungarian Wikipedia as well. It clearly states “’’The Wikimedia Foundation prohibits discrimination against current or prospective users and employees on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, ‘’’national origin’’’, age, disability, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristics.’’”

Since I’m denied the trusted user status based on the fact that I’m not Hungarian, or my national origin, we’re very clearly dealing with a case of discrimination which is prohibited.

Not only prohibited by the Wikipedia Foundation but also by applicable laws within the European Union and therefore within Hungary.

Furthermore, this goes against all Wikipedia stands for as defined in A Wikipédia öt pillére and more specifically in Civilizált viselkedés under “’’Példák - Komolyabb példák’’”. And “’’ Miért rossz?’’”

I asked Bencemac whether he/she was expressing a personal opinion or talking on behalf of the Hungarian Wikipedia. I waited 48 hours but didn’t receive an answer.

That leaves me no other option than to bring the issue over here, especially considering the gravity of the issue.

So let me repeat the question here; is discrimination against foreign nationalities a standard policy on the Hungarian Wikipedia?

If so, I will ask the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees of they share that opinion.

If not, it seems to me the only logical consequence is to revoke the bureaucrat user status of Bencemac. Someone who discriminates should not be allowed in any decision making process. Also I expect my request for trusted user to be reevaluated.
