I played around a bit on the [https://patchdemo.wmflabs.org/wikis/6db1b39e1a/wiki/Talk:Main_Page patch demo wiki], so if you open the special characters toolbar, [https://patchdemo.wmflabs.org/wikis/6db1b39e1a/wiki/MediaWiki:Visualeditor-quick-access-characters.json MediaWiki:Visualeditor-quick-access-characters.json]’s content will appear there (although the template insertions don’t really work in visual mode, since visual mode also inserts the curly brackets, but due to its WYSIWYG nature, it means that they get nowiki’d). It's better to include everything that you believe is necessary, because once they get to the end of the blockers list, they will believe that's all that's necessary before deploying it by default.
