For the seamless runoperation of Wikipedia it is required to log the data ofgenerated theby editors, and thisit datais sometimes shouldnecessary beto useduse this data to prevent abuse - Thisthis is resulateddescribed byin more detail in the privacy policy in detail.

The data I control only used to get (and will get) used (along with the requirements in the Pricavy Policy) when this could help prevent disturbingfurther abuse Wikipedia (for example vandalising articles, vote abuse or any repeated abuse of the policies), and this data helps identifyingin the namesidentification of the usernames and/or IP addresses of the editors in questioninvolved.

Examples of the possible use of the data:
* Sock puppet check, especially in the cases when there is possible vote abuse [possiblypreferably backed by at least 5 requests], in the case when policies are brokenviolated or abused by using sock puppets or when <s>at least one editorseditor</s> <u>both editorsuser<u> (accused of one being the sock puppetrypuppet of the other) agreesagree withto the check.
* blocking of an IP range/subnet if it becomebecomes necessary.
* ComplaintComplaints forto the ISP of the person in question when the community agrees that the editor was significantly disturbing or abusing Wikipedia, violatesviolated its interests ofor puts its working or existenceoperation in danger.

The list above is not exclusive: there could be a check in any case where it is necessary and the adminadministrators or editorthe community requestsof editors request it. (This should be decided by a vote with similar properties asto the "official policy vote" but possibly taking much shorter time.)

TheNo personal informationsinformation dogets notpublished getas publishedpart of the check, apart from the inherent cases where the name match or name-IP match could be devised by observing the blocks, or in the case of anonymous edits (so there will be no list containing the IP of an editor or its ISP devised from the checkuser results).

Addendum 1
* The date of every request gets into a public log. If the check matches then the Accountsmatching getuser publishednames are made public, or the IP if it's of an anon user
* The process is the following:
*# a request is received whether XX and YY is the same user: it requires at least a request of 2 admins (not have to benecessarily public) or the "yes" vote from at least 5 editors while they maintain siplesimple majority in the vote, slongalong with the reason. (whichSo couldthe check can be votedprevented downif thisit way)doesn't have the support of the simple majority of voters.
*# the check is processedperformed
*# the result gets published: „the two accounts are of the same user [sockpuppet]”, „not sockpuppet”; sometimes the result can be the list of the sockpuppets, or „cannot be determined” kind of reply, depending on the kind of request and technical possibilitieslimitations
*# the IP numbers of the editor(s) doare not get published.
* The other way to process is when XX and YY both request the check, and the publication of the result.
* So far the blocking-by-check, the spam protection and the attacks against the Wikipedia as a whole do not have a pre-determined process, but it should be based on the agreementconsensus of admins or editors.
