In den Ecken die vier Königreiche als Grundpfeiler des Reiches:
- oben links: das Königreich Preußen,
- oben rechts: das Königreich Bayern,
- unten links: das Königreich Württemberg und
- unten rechts: das Königreich Sachsen.
Obere Leiste (von links nach rechts): die Großherzogtümer Baden, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin und Oldenburg;
Linke Leiste (von oben nach unten): das Großherzogtum Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, das Herzogtum Braunschweig, das Großherzogtum Mecklenburg-Strelitz, das Herzogtum Sachsen-Altenburg, das Fürstentum Lippe-Detmold, das Fürstentum Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, das Fürstentum Reuß älterer Linie;
Rechte Leiste (von oben nach unten): das Herzogtum Sachsen-Meiningen, das Herzogtum Anhalt, das Fürstentum Waldeck-Pyrmont, das Herzogtum Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, das Fürstentum Schaumburg-Lippe, das Fürstentum Schwarzburg-Sondershausen und das Fürstentum Reuß jüngerer Linie;

- on top on the right : the Kingdom of Bavaria,
- below on the left : the Kingdom of Wuerttemberg and
- below on the right : the Kingdom of Saxony.
Upper strip (from left to right): the Grand Duchy of Baden, the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg.
Left strip (from above down): the Grand Duchy of Weimar-Eisenach, the Duchy of Brunswick, the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, the Principality of Lippe-Detmold, the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and the Principality of Reuss of Older Line.
