Das verlassene Mägdlein. Volkslied aus der Zeit der großen Ungarnzüge im 18. Jahrhundert

Die Donau fließt und wieder fließt
wohl Tag und nacht zum Meer,
ein' Well' die andre weiterzieht
und keine siehst du mehr.
All' Frühjahr' kehren d'Schwalben [Schwälbelein] z'ruck,
der Storch kommt wieder her,
doch die gen Ungarn 'zogen sind.
die kommen nimmermehr.
Das Ungarland ist's reichste Land,
dort wächst viel Wein und Treid;
[so hat's in Günzburg man verkünd't / die Schiff' steh'n schon bereit.
Dort geit' viel Vieh und Fisch und G'flug / und taglang ist die Weid']
der jetzo zieht ins Ungarland,
dem blüht die gold'ne Zeit.
Mein Schatz hat auch sein Glück probiert,
doch nicht zum Zeitvertreib,
und: "Eh der Holder 's drittmal blüht,
so hol' ich dich zum Weib!"
Und sieben, sieben lange Jahr'
die sind jetzt nun hinab;
ich wollt' ich wär bei meinem Schatz
doch niemand weiß sein Grab
