My name is Erica and I'm a Community Liaison for the visual editor at WMF. A few weeks ago [[User:Tgr]] notified me that [[:hu:Wikipédia:Kocsmafal_(javaslatok)/Archív112#VisualEditor_mint_alap.C3.A9rtelmezett_szerkeszt.C5.91|several editors expressed support]] for getting the visual editor "as the default editor". While [https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T114531 this can't still technically happen] for a while, I and other people working on the visual editor believe that it makes this community the perfect candidate to spearhead testing of a much-anticipated change, that is, showing a [https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T58337 single tab] for editing.
This new feature lets you choose one or two "Edit" tabs. It also lets you choose what the "Edit" tab does. The choices in [[Special:Preferences]] will be:
* {{int:visualeditor-preference-tabs-remember-last}},
* {{int:visualeditor-preference-tabs-prefer-ve}},
* {{int:visualeditor-preference-tabs-prefer-wt}}, and
* {{int:visualeditor-preference-tabs-multi-tab}}.
If you have disabled the visual editor, you will not see anything new, and this change won't affect you. For everyone else, you will be able to switch betwen the two editors via buttons on the toolbars.
We'd like to start this test on the week of January 25. The results, along with the learnings from the [[test2wiki:World|testing by Wikipedia editors on the "test2" wiki]] and the outcomes of formal [[:mw:Wikimedia_Research/Design_Research|user testing]], will help the visual editor team to take decisions for the future of this feature.
