Szócikk bővítése a Verziótörténet résszel, mely a csak pár utolsó kiadási verziót megemlítő Verziók rész helyett került kialakításra, immár táblázattal, ami tartalmazza az összes eddigi verziót. Az új táblázat a wikipédia angol szócikke alapján készült, magyarra fordított és a jobb áttekinthetőség érdekében kicsit módosított (pl. a hónapok mindenütt számmal kerültek jelölésre - hasonlóan a többi magyar linuxos szócikkhez) |

Az [[Ubuntu (Linux-disztribúció)|Ubuntu]] alapértelmezetten a [[Unity (ablakkezelő)|Unity]] asztali környezetet használja. Az Xubuntu az [[Xfce]] grafikus környezetet használja, ezáltal kevésbé terheli a rendszert, régebbi számítógépeken jobban használható. Xubuntu elsődlegesen GTK+ alkalmazásokat használ, amelyeket úgy terveztek, hogy ne használja annyira a rendszer erőforrásait, mint a [[GNOME]] megfelelői.

Az Ubuntuhoz hasonló kiadási ciklusokban jelenik meg. Az Xubuntu-nál is éppúgy megtalálhatóak a szokásos támogatási időnél hosszabban támogatott LTS verziók. (az LTS az angol Long-term support rövidítése)
Az 5.10-es verziót még csak ''xubuntu-desktop'' csomagként lehetett elérni, az első hivatalos kiadás a 6.06 LTS volt.
